Mental Preparation
A willingness to learn and spend time in an outdoor environment will contribute to a student’s success in swiftwater rescue training. Certification does not require a student to participate in all activities, however, they must observe all activities. If, at any point during a course, a student feels uncomfortable about participating and wishes to observe only, they should immediately advise the instructor of this decision. Rescue 3 recognizes caution as the first sign of a good rescuer.
Physical Preparation
Swiftwater rescue courses are by their nature physically challenging. However, given different levels of physical fitness, swimming ability and medical considerations, it is not necessary to participate in all activities in order to obtain certification. However, a student must observe all activities in order to be certified.
