Boat

No matter the boat, no matter the water, we have a boat handling and safety course that will work for you.

We offer a variety of boat-based training options from a fully-certified training course to customized sessions designed to meet your specific needs. Whether you are working in resource management, fire and rescue or the outdoor industry, we have an approach that will give you the confidence and skills needed to operate your boat in a safe manner. Training can be geared to external propellor, jetboat engines, or non-motorized watercraft.

Hands-On Approach
Our courses include basic skills for self-rescue and the rescue of others, but the focus is on identifying hazards, watercraft handling, and general on-water safety. You will learn to deal with watercraft both under power and with the engine cut. We use a hands-on approach that gives you lots of boat handling time and the chance to learn-by-doing.

Contact Us to Organize a Course
We believe personnel should train on the boat they will use in their work, and so we only offer these courses to clients who provide their own watercraft. We do not teach public, open-enrollment boat handling courses. Contact us to set up a course for your personnel.

Boat Safety and Handling

This 3-day boat handling and safety workshop is our most comprehensive boat-based course and is equally applicable to motorized or non-motorized watercraft, on moving water or flatwater. It combines basic rescue skills for self-rescue and the rescue of colleagues, with hands-on boat handling and safety training, and results in a globally-recognized certification.

Customized Boat Handling Sessions

We can design a customized training session for your personnel, based on their level of experience and the environment in which they work. One or two-day sessions can be arranged. This course is not Rescue 3 certified but provides valuable skills and experience for those who spend time on moving water in motorized or non-motorized craft.

What basic equipment do I need to be able to perform a safe and effective surface ice rescue?

February 1, 2012

This is one of the questions our instructors get all the time from our students.  As such we thought we might write something up to be used as a reference and help point you in the right direction.

Car in the Water

By Slim Ray, CFS Press

“Oh, God, this car is floating now. I’m going to get off the phone. This car is floating.” With that, Orlando Hudson, a 27-year-old carpenter, clicked off his mobile telephone and disappeared into the rising waters of Brush Creek.

our approach

We believe training should be tailored to the specific needs of each client. While we teach all the skills and knowledge necessary for certification, we approach a course for emergency personnel in an entirely different manner than one for resource managers or outdoor guides.
