Community Emergency Planning

Raven Rescue offers a specialized team of emergency professionals to assist municipalities, regional districts and First Nations governments in developing and implementing community emergency plans for natural, industrial and social/political emergencies. We can assist you in the collaborative process of developing a comprehensive plan that will guide you through the phases of prevention, preparedness, response and recovery. We can also provide related training and services, including emergency preparedness exercises to test your plan.

Worksite Safety (Hazard, Risk and Vulnerability Assessments)

By touring your worksite and seeing your personnel in action, we can determine whether hazards exist and recommend tools, techniques or training to lessen the risk. We can also evaluate your standard operating procedures to see if they can be improved upon.

Event Safety

Our technical skill and our “can-do” attitude makes Raven Rescue a valuable addition to your special event team. We can support your event on moving water, surface ice or in situations calling for technical rope systems.

Flood Safety and Management

Raven Rescue has extensive experience in pre-planning for flood scenarios, as well as hands-on flood safety, rescue and evacuation during actual high water incidents. We regularly work with BC’s Provincial Emergency Program, municipalities, police departments, fire departments and SAR groups.

Search, Rescue & Recovery

Raven Rescue offers assistance in planning and conducting safe searches on rivers and other bodies of water. We are well-versed in working with ground and aerial search teams, and as backup for dive rescue teams. In the case of a drowning in moving water, the body recovery rate is only 30%. In many cases, this leads to secondary fatalities when family or friends attempt recovery on their own. Raven Rescue has the skill and experience to deal with these complex situations. Initially, we determine if a body recovery is a viable option, and if it is, we have one of the highest chances of recovery in the industry. In addition, we are experienced in critical stress debrief and are committed to operating in a professional yet sensitive manner.

Expert Testimony

Raven Rescue owner and head instructor Walter Bucher is among the most senior experts on technical rescue in North America. Years of swiftwater, rope, boat and ice rescue instruction, coordination of water-based search and rescue, river running, and managing flood situations gives him one of the most experienced and credible perspectives in the industry. In addition, Walter Bucher is a Swiftwater Instructor Trainer - the highest level of certification in swiftwater rescue, and oversees operations in Western Canada for Rescue 3, the world leader in technical rescue instruction. Walter Bucher is articulate, concise and professional. He has a demonstrated ability to work effectively with legal teams and coroner services.

Make Life Easier for Canadian SAR Teams

Outdoor safety educator “AdventureSmart” urges Canadians to work together this season and give the search and rescue volunteers of Canada extra support. Get informed and get outdoors!

our approach

We believe training should be tailored to the specific needs of each client. While we teach all the skills and knowledge necessary for certification, we approach a course for emergency personnel in an entirely different manner than one for resource managers or outdoor guides.
