Rope

We teach simple, safe and effective rope skills that have endless applications in emergency response, industry and resource management.

From basic, over-the-bank rope skills to high-line tyroleans, we can provide the low or high angle rope training best-suited to your needs.

Our core rope courses are based on NFPA Standards:

  1. Roadside Rope Rescue for Fire Service (over-the-bank rescue skills)
  2. Technical Rope Rescue - Operations (low and steep angle skills)
  3. Technical Rope Rescue - Technician (steep and high angle skills)
  4. Tower Rescue (high angle skills in a tower environment)
  5. ProBoard Evaluation - Technical Rope Rescue (evaluation conducted by North Vancouver Fire Rescue)

We also offer non-NFPA courses including:

  • Fall Protection

Choosing the Best Course
All courses start with the basics and progress to more advanced techniques in simple, logical steps. No prior rope experience is required. For those with recent Operations level training or equivalent, it is possible to upgrade to a Technician’s level certification within a year, at a reduced rate. See our Technical Rope Rescue Technician’s course outline for more info.

For more information on choosing the level of training you require, please see our FAQ: Choosing a Training Level.

Endless Applications for Technical Rope Skills
The applications of technical rope skills are endless including extricating victims; hauling litters and moving heavy objects; crossing moving water or canyons; high rise evacuation, construction and maintenance; extricating vehicles from water, sand or mud; lowering and raising equipment and personnel from helicopters not equipped with winches; bridge, dam and railway construction and inspection; and many more.

Our rope courses are designed to meet the rope rescue criteria of the NFPA 1670 Standard on Operations & Training for Technical Rescue Incidents. We are a THARRP-approved training agency in BC.

Fall Protection

An 8-hour fall protection course for personnel who work at height.

Rope Operations for Road Rescue

A brand new 2 1/2 day rope rescue course specifically designed for fire departments to prepare them for the inevitable car off the road and over-the-bank rescue.

Technical Rope Rescue - Operations

This 3-day introductory rope rescue course focuses on fundamental low angle rope rescue skills, including over-bank rescues.

Technical Rope Rescue - Technician

We have recently redesigned our NFPA rope courses in order to provide more time for hands-on practice of skills. Our TRR-Technician course is now seven days long and begins with low angle rope rescue skills and progresses to high angle skills, including high-line systems. Prior rope experience is an asset but is not required. Those with a current TRR-Operations certification only have to attend the last four days of the course.

Tower Rescue

This 3-day course focuses on applying high angle technical rope rescue skills to a tower or structural environment.

Technical Rope Rescue - Technician (ProBoard Evaluation)

This two-day evaluation will test candidates against the NFPA 1006 Standard as outlined by the ProBoard Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (or “ProBoard), an international accreditation system for fire service organizations. Raven Rescue hosts these evaluations through a new partnership with the District of North Vancouver District Fire and Rescue Services, a ProBoard accredited testing agency.

Standby Rescue and Safety Services

We can provide certified, insured and experienced professionals to meet your standby safety and rescue needs when personnel are operating at height whether they are in an industrial, urban or wilderness setting.

February 1, 2012

This is one of the questions our instructors get all the time from our students.  As such we thought we might write something up to be used as a reference and help point you in the right direction.

Safety Guide for Operations Over Ice

This Government of Canada guide specifies rules for safe operations on surface ice; provides information on the thickness of ice required to support moving and stationary loads; specifies methods for determining ice thickness and quality; and outlines approved methods for the preparation and maintenance of ice bridges.

our approach

We believe training should be tailored to the specific needs of each client. While we teach all the skills and knowledge necessary for certification, we approach a course for emergency personnel in an entirely different manner than one for resource managers or outdoor guides.
