Wilderness First Aid For Field Services (WFAFS)

This course has been specifically designed for resource management or industrial workers who may find themselves operating in remote locations including professionals in resource management, mining operations, oil and gas, government organizations, or any profession involved in field services for industry.

Participants in this program will learn to adapt their thinking towards providing first-aid in locations where resources may be less than adequate, and evacuation to a hospital is hours away.

This course expands on our Wilderness First Aid course by focusing on situations that are unique to field worker environments, including skills that are applicable to those who work in pairs or small teams. This program includes consideration of government and industrial guidelines for providing first-aid in remote workplaces, and is approved through Alberta Workplace Heath and Safety, and because of a recent federal agreement, is now also recognized in BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Yukon.

What basic equipment do I need to be able to perform a safe and effective surface ice rescue?

February 1, 2012

This is one of the questions our instructors get all the time from our students.  As such we thought we might write something up to be used as a reference and help point you in the right direction.

How many people drown in Canada each year?

The most recent Canadian statistics around drowning deaths are from a report by the Red Cross in 2003. It cites trends from 1991-2000 and examines drowning deaths by locations including lakes, rivers, boats, ice, pools, bathtubs etc.

our approach

We believe training should be tailored to the specific needs of each client. While we teach all the skills and knowledge necessary for certification, we approach a course for emergency personnel in an entirely different manner than one for resource managers or outdoor guides.
